Received a Documented Vessel tax renewal notice

Documented Vessel (DV) property tax bills are paid with the Beaufort County Treasurer’s office (843-341-8404). These bills are taxed in arrears and are determined by the January 1st owner. Bills are mailed around November annually and are due by January 15th of the following year.

If you sold, junked, or otherwise transferred ownership of the vessel that you received a tax bill for, please provide a copy of the bill of sale or transfer of ownership documentation to our office by completing the request ticket form linked below. In addition, the Coast Guard will need to be notified at 800-799-8362. However, if you owned the property as of January 1st of the current tax year, you are still responsible for taxes for the entire year.

If you received a DV tax bill but the boat was not actually present in South Carolina for over 180 days, please provide our office supporting out of state documentation for review. Documents can include dockage records, storage contracts, marina slips and/or invoices, and fuel receipts.

If you received a DV tax bill but already paid personal property taxes either to a different county in South Carolina or in another state, please forward our office a copy of your paid tax receipt to have the duplicate billing removed.
